GUILFORD COLLEGE, FRIDAY, MARCH 2, 1956 Stridor, Gibson, And Adams Chosen To Serve On Athletic Committee The athletic situation at Guil ford was considered by the Board of Trustees in a meeting Friday, January 20. They were presented with a plan to subsidize sports at Guilford. The Board of Trustees suggested that a committee be ap pointed to draw up plans and pre sent them to the board at a regu lar meeting in April. The commit tee is to be made up of three mem bers from the Board of Trustees, three from the faculty, three from the alumni, and three students. During freshman and upper class chapel last week, Bill Gibson, Charlie Strider, and Ketchel Adams were elected to represent the students. The following ideas were ex pressed by the representatives. Charlie Strider: "Guilford's ath letics are in a very bad state and there should definitely be a change in the policies of the support of our intercollegiate teams. I will work toward a result which will satisfy the students and bring up the standards of Guilford's teams. These student elections should definitely not be popularity con tests; they should mainly be a question of capability. Each candi date should be weighed carefully with consideration of his past ex perience and leadership. Just what are some of the traits lhat a student who represents Guilford College in his position as a campus leader should have? He or she ought to be honest, consci entious, dependable, friendly, just, likable, and cooperative. He should be able to work well with other people - - all types of people; he should be able to accept criticism and to control his temper; he should be interested in the posi tion he holds and also realize his responsibility. He should be cap able of building better relations between the administration and the students. Last, but not least, he must respect Guilford College and what it stands for. Dr. Clyde Milner has this state ment to make to the student body concerning the elections: "Stu dents have an opportunity and real responsibility in electing their best possible leadership. Capacity for constructive administration of office sought and demonstrative influence in previous positions should be taken into consideration. In your choosing, think carefully about each candidate before vot ing and exercise your privilege of franchise with your best and care fully matured judgment." Surely it is the duty of each stu dent to think carefully before he votes, and not wait until the last moment to choose. Let's have a good slate of officers for every organization next year, and may the best men and women win! Give Blood BLOODMOBILE TO BE HERE MARCH 7th From 10:00 A M.-3:30 P.M. NO. 13
